Nathan’s testimony

Nathan is an ordained minister, graduate of SWBTS in Fort Worth with his MDiv in Missions and Evangelism. Most importantly God saved Nathan when he was 18 years old. A college student cared enough to invite Nathan to a Christian concert. It was a Truth concert and he heard the Gospel for the first time that it impacted him. He was convicted of his sins–though he had been a Baptist church member–he had lived like the world and his sins were many. God’s Spirit convicted him and humbled him that night and Nathan repented of his sins and gave his life to Christ–recognizing that it wasn’t much to give–but a filthy mess. God took that filthy mess and washed him clean and made him a new creation! Nathan began to follow Jesus as Lord of his life and he has been forever changed. He began doing mission work soon after and has been led to continue missions and evangelism as the course of his life’s work and dedication to the Lord.

The story about the tie

…I needed a costume for a church in 1997 that wanted me to juggle in Texas close to where I was going to seminary. I didn’t want a “clown” outfit, but I didn’t want to look like anyone else either. I wanted something simple that made me stick out in a good way…I decided on a tie…it would have to be crazy…because that’s what the guy at the church was looking for “wear something crazy for the kids.” So I sewed the tie onto the shirt that you will see in my practice video below that I recently (2024) found in my closet on a VHS tape.

When I got to the church and was being introduced, he looked over at me and forgot my name (you probably have too…but that’s ok.) He said, “Please welcome the Crazy Tie Guy.” I didn’t think anything about it…I went on and shared my juggling and told the kids about Jesus. Then at the next church the same thing happened…and I realized I had been given my name that people would remember, “The Crazy Tie Guy”. Not that I really want to be remembered, but it helps if people can find you later on when they want you back! Who was that guy that juggled that we liked so much? Oh yeah…the Crazy Tie Guy.

(And if your church hates ties, don’t worry. Sometimes I leave it at home.)

The practice below was my plan to do something different and fun at the 1998 IJA competition…but I never performed the routine because I did not make the cut…I had 2 drops while trying out and I was also glorifying God in my routine…in previous years, an IJA competitor had cursed God on stage and I felt it was my job to honor God and glorify Him there instead of what had been happening. Anyway, I never made it…and never performed the routine that I started working on here.

Remember, this is practice…a long time ago…I drop quite a few times while practicing and wound up pulling some of the tricks I tried here out and replacing them with better ones…but I didn’t get a VHS of that. Here’s what I did get:
